OSHA- Occupational Safety and Health Administration, in 1970 the United States Congress and President Richard Nixon created OSHA, they felt that no worker should have to choose between their job and life, the creation of OSHA was a historic moment of cooperative national reform. The OSHA law makes it clear that the right to a safe workplace is a human right.

Since OSHA started, the agency has delivered outstanding progress for our nation. Workplace injuries, illnesses, and deaths have fallen dramatically. OSHA has tackled deadly safety hazards and health risks. OSHA is committed to protecting workers from toxic chemicals and deadly safety hazards at work, ensuring that all employees have access to critical information and education about job hazards and have assistance to promote best practices that can save lives.

OSHA'S safety and health standards, including those for asbestos, fall protection, cotton dust, trenching, machine guarding, benzene, lead and bloodborne, pathogens have prevented countless work-related injuries, illnesses and deaths. Many more hazards and unsafe conditions still exist in the U.S  workplaces each year more than 3 million workers suffer a serious job-related injury or illness, exposed to toxic chemicals that may cause illnesses years from now. Employers must display OSHA job safety and health poster that describes rights and responsibilities under OSHA act. Provide safety personal equipment at no cost to workers, provide hearing exams and medical tests.

Many uses of Mezzanines

A mezzanine floor is a raised platform between the floor and the ceiling of a building. Mezzanines come in all shapes and sizes and colors, it maximized the use of the vertical space. Provides additional room above and below, built free of existing structures.Mezzanines are usually constructed from steel, aluminum or fiberglass,  you will see Mezzanine structures, in a customer service area, a cafe', or a new department, malls, theaters, restaurants, the possibilities are limitless.

A properly designed warehouse that utilizes vertical space to store stock can solve the issues of can't finding a product etc. Employees will know what to find , what they need, and incoming and outgoing deliveries can be quickly sorted.

Retail image counts for everything. Retail and outlets spend millions and millions on advertising and branding. Nothing is more appealing than a well organized stocked shop. Mezzanines are popular in retail, Mezzanines can offer a variety of possibilities to a retail store. From extra space for stock or a dedicated Industrial.

An office space can create a space to complete paperwork, invite clients and visitors for all important meetings and make phone calls. It helps transforms your work -space into a functional, attractive environment. Design options company color schemes, furnishings, hand rails is made  steel and finished in stainless steel.

Often production, distribution, automotive distribution, and manufacturing plants will have a large amount of staff, long work hours, several lunch breaks. With many staff coming and going it is important not to disturb workers. Mezzanines can be used to build walkways which follow the route of the building.

Many ways with Cantilevers

The cantilever storage system is very space efficient. You can customize it according to your facilities needs. Their designed to store large bulky items such as pipes, furniture, lumber and other large items that must be kept off the floor. this storage solution is ideal to save space, It is multilevel and is designed and engineered to give superior strength, stability and safety.Cantilever racking is comprised of three components;

1.Uprights consist of a vertical column and a horizontal base which is bolted to the column   2.Arms Straight arms are designed for storing items such as lumber, steel, and cartons and inclined arms are generally used for cylindrical items that tend to roll.  3.Brace sets. Once you know what your storing you must determine the length, depth, height, and weight once that is know its easy to determine how many arms, upright and braces you will need.this system can be installed as free standing structure or bolted into a suitable wall. they can also be utilized in a single or double sided configuration.

Cantilevers are easy to install , they lay the foundations and produce the structure at the same time. They are inexpensive , cantilevers go from bridges architecture where engineers have to span wide rivers with few supports. Its amazing on what you can create with Cantilevers. There are aluminum cantilevers where it can be used in many traffic situations. Street lights, signal lights etc.  Cantilevers has flexibility they can extend to 14 meters.

The Future of Pallet Racking:

What is expected to come in 2025?

Europe, Canada and the USA is using a Physical Internet (PI) to help research what is to come next for upgrading warehouses. Using this tool they are able to see a digital imagine on the information needed. The Goal is to get to see how it is handled as a model, aiming to transfer the same concept from a network to physical goods. This should reduce the typical cost of a warehouse down about 30% and the greenhouse effect emission by about 60%. With all of this starting off, it should create about 10% more jobs in the USA as well!

How high can you store materials on pallets and safety of pallets.

According to The United States of Labor , all materials stored in tiers shall be stacked, racked, blocked, interlocked, and secured to prevent sliding, falling or collapse . Materials stored inside buildings under construction shall not be placed within 6 feet of any hoist way or inside a floor openings, or should not be placed within 10 feet of an exterior wall. Depending on the height of the frames and the space of the beams. High rise storage systems can reach 100 feet, however for a typical rack its 20-25 feet.

Storage areas should be kept free from accumulation of materials that creates hazards from tripping, pest hideout, fire or explosion. Some of the most common types of pallet racks and systems used include; drive in and drive through which allows forklift to drive directly into the lane of the stacked rows called a bay. It can have an entry at only one end or at both ends. There is a push back pallet rack designed organizing space by depth than width, reduces aisle space and increases storage density. Pallet flow, this uses a slightly inclined rail with rollers that allow pallets to move easily along the sloped plane. Last but not least compact mobilized pallet racks , they are designed to maximize the use of warehouse storage space.

For safety considerations pay attention to any lose components in the pallet rack system, report any damage in pallet rack, such as frame , if damaged it could cause pallets to fall. Never overload or exceed the recommended load for a racking system. For example 3000 lb max pallet weight being stored on 96'' beam spans would need to have 6000 lbs. Here is a fact did you know since the Second World War , pallet racks have become an essential element of most modern warehouses.

There are approximately  705,000 workers in the warehousing and Logistics distribution industry, these warehouse workers perform a wide variety of tasks, including labeling items, breaking bulk shipments down into smaller components, inventory control, light assembly, order entry and fulfillment, packaging, pick and pack, price marking and ticketing and transportation with a forklift and other transportation . Injuries most often happen with the back, upper extremities and knees, and most likely  caused by exposure to material handling or other ergonomic-related risk factors including high applied force, awkward postures, or long work schedules without adequate breaks.

Every month to a few months a company has safety meetings to go over the tips and hazards to make sure every employee is safe on the job.  Here are some examples of safety tips for a warehouse and distribution facility .For conveyor safety  make a lockout plan for your conveyor systems and all other machinery systems you may have, so it can remain safely shut down in an event of a malfunction or repair during the that time.  Warehouse Ergonomics  : Equip packing stations with impact absorbing, anti-slip floor mats, did you know that can relieve the stress placed on employees knees, shins, and ankles while working all day in one place. Make sure that floors are kept free of spills and tripping hazards,  prevent eyestrain and errors by providing workers with overhead lighting that is sufficient for all operations. Never twist your body while carrying a load, it isn't safe it can lead to back injuries, if you need to turn direction, turn yourself by moving your feet in small steps or have a worker help you if needed.

Train your workers on proper hydration, appropriate clothing, and working in hot or cold environment. For conveyor safety  make a lockout plan for your conveyor systems and all other machinery systems you may have, so it can remain safely shut down in an event of a malfunction or repair during the that time. The majority of pallet rack structural failures result from impacts from a lift truck collision, misuse and overloading, lack of safety.  Many situations can occur in a warehouse or similar industries, such as slips and tripping , falls, fire, crushed, exposure to harmful substances, moving parts , falling objects, and of course lack of safety education. Its very important to know your safety tips and hazards to keep your self safe and others around you.
